Here are brief descriptions of each of the
ingredients, with an emphasis on the qualities making them good ingredients for our
herbal detox teas:
- Cinnamon: Added
principally for flavor, cinnamon bark has many of the properties of spices, being aromatic,
carminative (inducing the expulsion of gas from the stomach and
intestines) and a stimulant.
- Cloves: Have the most
stimulating and carminative properties of all the aromatics. As a local
irritant it has the property of stimulating peristalsis (the wavelike
muscular contractions of the alimentary canal or other tubular structures by
which contents are forced onward toward the opening). Has been used with
success as a stimulating expectorant.
- Corn Silk:
Is
highly valued as support for the urinary system. Has diuretic
qualities and is a mild stimulant. Has been used as a treatment in urinary
tract infections and for reducing kidney stone formation.
- Dandelion Root: Is used
as a blood and kidney cleanser and tonic, as well as a diuretic. It is
used as a general cleansing stimulant for the liver.
- Fenugreek:
Fenugreek has a long history of use. It has a wide range of
uses in the Mediterranean area in ancient times. It was used
for the treatment of wounds, abscesses, arthritis, bronchitis,
and digestive problems. Traditional Chinese herbalists have
used, and still use, it for kidney problems. Studies indicate
that fenugreek seeds are a rich source of saponins which may
account for many of Fenugreek's beneficial effects. Fenugreek
is also favored for is mucilaginous properties. This makes it
a good demulcent working effectively to relieve pain in
irritated or inflamed mucous membranes.
- Ginger:
Has carminative
and stimulant properties. It is considered a tonic for the digestive tract
acting to stimulate digestion and tone the intestinal muscles.
This in turn eases the transport of substances through the
digestive tract, lessening any irritation to the intestinal
walls. When taken hot, ginger may aid the cleansing process
through promoting perspiration.
- Goldenrod:
Has
anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, astringent, carminative, and diuretic
qualities that make it beneficial for our product.

primarily for kidney stones or gravel. It has also been used for urinary tract
infections such as cystitis (urinary tract inflammation) and urethritis

is a tradition herb that is high in silica. The body utilizes
silica to not only help heal broken bones, and strengthen
finger nails, but is also has strong diuretic and
astringent qualities making it useful for bladder and kidney affections.
- Hydrangea:
Most common use is
for the kidneys and bladder because of its effective diuretic
quality which helps increase the flow of urine. This takes impurities out of the
system and lessens the likelihood of infection along the entire urinary tract,
which includes the kidneys, bladder, prostate (in men) and urethra.
- Juniper Berries: Are a
highly effective antiseptic, especially in treating inflammation of the
bladder and kidney problems. They also have diuretic and carminative
qualities.

digestive tract. Is also useful in increasing the flow of all digestive

- Uva
Ursi: Also known as
bearberry this herb has long been used in treating many diseases
of the bladder and kidneys. It has a strong diuretic action due to the presence of
arbutin which has the effect of draining excess water from
cells. It passes unchanged through to, and excreted by, the kidneys.
During its excretion, the arbutin exercises an antiseptic effect on the
kidneys and the urinary
